Work from home job hunting today isn’t just about skills, it’s about dodging ghost jobs, shady recruiters, and salary offers that make you question your entire existence. So here's a no-filter, mostly honest reflection from my job-hunting phase.

A year ago, I was deep in the chaos of job applications, remote roles, and endless resume rewrites. I wrote this piece in April 2024; part rant, part therapy. But in 2025, honestly not much has changed. The circus is still on, only this time, the clowns wear suits and send fake LinkedIn offers.

Humorous illustration of the work from home job hunt struggle: resumes, scams, and remote chaos.

The Dark Side of Work From Home Job Hunting

Oh, the joys of scrolling through every job portal until your eyeballs burn. You apply for roles that match your skills, hoping one will be the one. But then…

“Har chamakti cheez sona nahi hoti.”

Even LinkedIn, the gold standard of job boards, now hides scams in plain sight.

You reach the final round of interviews, only to be ghosted. Or you get a “small assignment” that magically appears on their website, unpaid, of course. And let’s not forget the cheeky checkbox at the end of the application that auto-follows the company page, as if to say, “Welcome to the family!” (You’ll never hear from them again.)

WFH Job Scams Are the New Normal

A quick search shows just how many people fall for the same traps: fake HR calls, sketchy job offers, and “just pay this one-time onboarding fee” messages.

It’s exhausting. But also, weirdly hilarious… in hindsight.

Sidekick Salaries, Superhero Roles

And then there’s the money talk. Ever stumbled across a job post that says:
“Remote Content Manager – ₹25,000/month”?

That’s right, ₹25,000 for a full-time role that wants you to run strategy, write content, grow engagement, and be their in-house brand therapist. Basically: they want a superhero, but they're only paying for a sidekick (on a ramen noodle budget).

The Job Description Fine Print Nobody Talks About

Every time I read a job description, I wondered, “Do they want a human or a magician?” Those classic lines "Go above and beyond," "wear multiple hats," and "must be a team player", aka code for: do everything, get underpaid, and smile while you're at it. Don’t take it personally. It’s just the system being... itself.

When in Doubt, Scroll @humoranimations

When things get too real, I recommend scrolling through @humoranimations on Instagram. Their content perfectly captures the absurdity of modern job culture, and makes you laugh when you most need it. It’s like they say the exact words that you wish you had said out loud. Sometimes, healing looks like memes and mock interviews.

What I've Learned From This Work From Home Job Hunting

Since writing this, I have found better clarity (and real clients). What helped?

  • Asking more questions
  • Spotting red flags faster than HR can say “we’ll get back to you.”

  • Potecting my time, energy, and ideas

  • Never doing a free test assignment again

If you are still in that phase, breathe. You’re not alone. And when it all feels too much, take a break. You are more than your resume. You are more than a rejection. You are exactly where you need to be. Sometimes, the chaos even push you into something better, freelancing, entrepreneurship, or work that finally feels aligned with who you are.
